News: Kathleen Grosset, for the survival of agencies by Michel Puech in La lettre de la photographie 2011, june 13
Kathleen Grosset, former director of both the Rapho press agency and Saphir (Syndicat des Agences de Presse Photographiques d’Information et de Reportage, was elected on Thursday, June 9, 2011, to run the French Federation of Press Agencies (FFAP) for the next three years.
She will be replacing Arnaud Hamelin, director of Sunset Press and president of the Satev Syndicat des Agences de Presse Télévisée (Satev), who stepped down after three successive mandates.
Kathleen Grosset is the daughter of Barbara and Raymond Grosset, responsible for reviving the agency founded in 1933 by Charles Rado, the Rapho agency, after the second World War.
After graduating at 22, she began working in the family business as a journalist before taking over its international sales division. In 1990, she took over the agency until its acquisition by Hachette Filipacchi, later becoming part of Hachette Photos Presse and Hachette Photos Illustration.
From 2000 to 2010, she ran the Rapho department within Hachette Photo Presse, then Eyedea Presse before filing for bankruptcy. She did not continue with the agency when Eyedea was absorbed by Gamma becoming Gamma-Rapho under the direction of François Lochon.
In addition to her activities at Rapho, she was also on several elected administrative committees including the FFAP and was vice-president of Saphir from 2004-2006 before becoming President until 2009.
Since June, 2004, she has been an active member of the Commission Paritaire des Publications et Agences de Presse, the French organization that delivers press agency accreditations.
